During last Wednesday night's college basketball game between Rice and Tulane Universities, Rice’s mascot, Sammy the Owl was ejected from the game by referee Curtis Shaw. During the game, Sammy the Owl was reportedly “camped out” on the baseline and Shaw asked him to move. But instead of moving, Sammy decided to bump his mascot head on Shaw in a rubbing type fashion and got ejected soon after.
The importance of this article is that, it doesn’t matter who you are, even the mascots get ejected from games. Other stories that could come from this story are cheerleaders or towel boys getting ejected from games. Also, another story could be “Are Referees Taking Fun Out of the Games?” or “Is School Spirit Overrated?” The follow up article could be if Rice will be fined because of Sammy the Owl getting ejected.
